Scouting the 62nd Bristol way…

Archive for the ‘Summer Term’

Star City 2008

Well, there’s a surprise, another wet, windy and truly miserable night of weather for yet another 62nd Scout event.

It has to be a record.

We arrived back to base at Mendip Raceway at 4:30am, the sun, sorry the grey cloudy morning was starting to rise, at the same time as the heavens opened. We could see the finish in the distance, but the rain was so heavy we just got wet, nay soaked, nay dripping…

Upon returning to Bristol I heard on BBC 5Live that Lizzie ’someone or other’ from BBC Newsround started the 3 peaks challenge at 4:30 am this vary same morning. She was 20 mins off the summit of Ben Nevis, with Scafell Pike and Snowden to do in a total of 24 hours. Good luck to her, I’ll stop in with my cup of tea and squashed BLT sandwich thank you.

The 62nd ‘Lemmings’ team were brilliant of course. Major achievements include not moaning at all, good on you all. Getting a whopping 23 radioactive balls into the safety dump, another team managed nought. All the team standing on a rather small piece of newspaper, rather impressively so. Navigating around the Mendips at night in a stonking time. Congratulations to you all, I’m rather proud, sniff…

Oh ~ surviving that field of horses and cows was pretty good too. Especially that bloomin great big white beasty with the simply enormous, yes enormous, horns! I’m so glad he stepped out of the way (and that Dave was in front…)

Thank you to you all and also to the organisers  – much obliged.

Glenny Washout

What a wet one, ‘even my pants are wet’ came the cry across the flood plains of Glenny Woods Scout Camp during the epic canvas take down of the last day. Typically we got back to Bristol and the sun came out, albeit a brief appearance of a couple of minutes.

Still, from one epic canvas adventure to another, drying a pile of wet, nay, sodden canvas before next weeks AGM. Big thanks to all the parents who helped unload and hang up, very much appreciated!

Bigger thanks to the Scouts who were brilliant throughout and chipped in whenever required. Summer camp can’t be as bad… Hang on, it’s Wales… Bu…….

Summer Request

Sun

DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING FOR THE NEXT PROGRAMME!? Summer Term 2008 is very nearly unbelievably upon us and we are soon to plan out the programme.

We have a few ideas but the best ones are always yours…

Anything goes in the crazy world of 62nd Scouts so send an email to Clive or just leave a message in the website Guestbook. As a famous person once said:

“Anything can happen and it usually does”…

On another note, our next Scout camp at Glenny Woods is about to be unleashed in spectacular style, well by a letter at next Scouts, get your return in soon! Letter available on website in next 48 hours, hopefully!

PS: how are the T-shirt designs coming along – see Blog entry below…

Thank you

A huge thank you to everyone who popped along to the Jersey and Jam presentaitons last night at the hut. Many lovely comments were received and it seems people really enjoyed themselves, despite lots and lots of photos!!

Wobbly photos and meerkats won the day though!

Jersey…

Two weeks ago I was recovering with a rather long lie in…

Since then we have had many excellent reports and feedback from Scouts, parents and leaders. A great and rewarding time was obviously had!

Thank you to everyone involved, many happy memories!

Enough sloppiness, on with the next bit…
…would that be surfing?

Everyone returns…

Well here we are, a brand new term and all of a sudden the heady days of summer 2007 seem a long way behind. Still, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts have all returned to record numbers it would seem. We must be doing something right…

Hope everyone enjoys their Autumn Term of Scouting!
