Scouting the 62nd Bristol way…

Avon Scouting

Just had a newsletter from AvonScouts, I feel privelidged indeed:

August 2010

Ok, so it’s the worst kept secret ever in the history of 62nd Bristol. So strictly ‘off the record’ and this message will self distruct after reading it style; just to fill you in.

We are ‘in the process’ of planning a mega trip abroad in the summery month of August 2010. Yes, 2010.

It is the furthest we have ever been, ever… and yes it does involve Eastern Europe with a place begining with C. As nothing has been booked yet it would be foolish to release details, but we can certainly whet your appetites!

…as said last night at Scouts all those that were ‘in the room’ will ‘at the moment’ hopefully be able to go (as long as you are still in Scouting – i.e. moved onto Explorers!). So there – we love you that much to pull a few strings for you…

If ready, full details are being released in January 2009 ~ watch this space!

From New South Wales to Old South Wales…

Here we are bidding a tearfull farewell to Sunny Sydney and looking forward to all the delights and mud of Scorching Swansea. Here is our New Zealand and Sydney top five (cue the music):

  1. Maori Night at Rotoroua.
  2. Photobucket

  3. Kaikora Whale Watching.
  4. Hot Geysers and Smelly mud pools.
  5. Wellington.
  6. Two Hours of the Train ride over Arthur’s Pass.

Sydney:

  1. Scaling the Sydney Harbour Bridge (absolutely stunning!)
  2. Toronga Zoo, especially the Seal Pool.
  3. Blue Mountain Coach trip with Funky Phill.
  4. Beaches, especially the ones with added Sharks.
  5. View from the Marriott window.

That’s it folks, sighning off for the final time.

According to Australian telly the Aussies have been ’invincible’ at the Olympic,

I however suspect they haven’t checked the medal table recently…
Chortle!

From Bridge to Bondi… (and a few Bandicoots)

We’ve concluded that one of our leaders, back in Bristol, would have ‘issues’ with the native wildlife if residing in Oz for any length of time. We strolled around the Australian Museum on Monday and viewed features all about Australian wildlife, coupled with an excellent visit to Taronga Zoo, the irrational fear of eight-legged little beasties (with sharp pointy teeth) suddenly becomes very real. Dave doesn’t know this but I’ve started checking the toilet bowl for Red-Back spiders…

Taronga Zoo is set in the harbour with stunning views across to the harbour bridge and Opera house. The only down side was we forgot to do the detour to see the Tazmanian devil. Ah well, we hear they’re all gonna be extinct soon anyway!

Highlight of Sydney so far has to be climbing the harbour bridge this morning. We have very cheesy photos to prove it, complete with silly hat and wind-swept hair. It all got a bit sickly however, as we ended up on a trip with 3 honeymooning couples, share the love people.

The climb itself was remarkably easier than expected with the view from all angles simply incredible. At the summit the weather was really quite pleasant with little wind and no evidence of frost nip at all! Although, 4 layers and gloves may have helped…

After lunch we pottered over to Bondi beach, turned out to be a journey slightly more epic than the flight over. We assumed ‘Bondi Junction’ station was close to the beach. But no, it’s no where near it!! Located it in the end and had ice cream whilst watching the surf dudes.

Loving Sydney, off out of town to the Blue Mountains tomorrow, up at 8am so time to go.

Oh, we saw Billy Elliot musical last night as well, which was nice!

and you thought Glenny was wet…

Truly epic rain. Half a months rainfall fell last night in New Zealand and it still continues today. Local bowling greens are swimming pools. Forecast is more for tomorrow, showers apparentely…

…Now in Rotorua, famous for it’s smell (rotten eggs).

Scouts sites found have now totalled 3. Accidentally turned round in a Scout hut car park (on Clive Road). Also parked opposite a Scout Campsite, when trying to visit a beach, (in amongst the rain), accidentally again. Walked past Sea Scout Group hut when trying to find Museum in Rotorua, complete with Maori Long boat outside.

Photobucket When trying to find Mt Eden we needed to turn round, so found this car park – on Clive Road…

Tell Alexis we’ve seen several St John Ambulances!

Off to thermal pool things tomorrow.

Day 1, or 2, or 3… errr

Photobucket

Just landed in Sydney airport, it’s 7am Sunday morning (10:30pm Saturday UK). Have a lengthy wait for flight to Auckland, airport is a building site, so not a great deal to do!

Dave disasters are currently running at not 1, or 2, but 3…

Just worked out that our flights are currently longer than the whole of Beaver Whacking and we still have FIVE hours to go! Off to find another cup of tea…

More astounding updates to follow… (If we can find a computer thats Free!)
